Rep. Takano Announces Over $1 Million in Research Awards for the University of California, Riverside
WASHINGTON, D.C.— Today, Representative Mark Takano (D-Calif.) announced the funding of two projects based at the University of California, Riverside totaling over $1 millionfrom the National Science Foundation.
UCR’s Division of Materials Research received a $430,000 award to fund their Research Experience for Undergraduate students (REU) program. This REU program offers students hands-on experience in experimental techniques associated with the preparation and characterization of thin film and 2D-materials.These technologies are seen in multiple industries, from activating catalysts for crude oil refining to next generation microelectronic devices and medical implants.
UCR’s Division of Computing and Communication Foundations received a $588,795 award to continue funding their Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Program. This is the National Science Foundation’s most prestigious awards in support of early-career faculty who have the potential to serve as academic role models in research and education and to lead advances in the mission of their department or organization.This project will focus on building effective algorithms to match advancements in modern multicore machines.
